**Season 8- Liga BBVA -
So time for my first full season at Sevilla, I thought going into this season that the Champions League was a decent enough target for us. I felt that we have a good squad but with a few additions we could make that move up the table. I was also looking forward to a good pre season in which would allow my players to learn how I want them to play.
In terms of the ins, I had tried to focus on bringing in some more youth players to add to the depth in the youth set up. I cannot compete with the wages or the fees for the bigger clubs so I have felt youth was the way forward.
Isco was a huge player I decided to bring into the set up. He is an excellent player and despite being released by Real Madrid, I still felt he could do a job for us. So to get him on a free was a real bonus.
I also brought in Jimmy Jaotombo from Dijon, he did really well for them last year and again I felt that he could do a job. It would be a step up for him but I felt that he certainly could do something for us.
The rest of the players were youth boys which I will touch on later on in the post.
In terms of the outs, we got rid of some big players that had done well for us. I felt I could do this because I had enough cover and it continues with my plan of giving youth a chance. This meant that we had a very profitable season in the transfer market.
For most of the season it was a two way fight between us and Madrid. We built our success on a very solid back line in which we did not concede too many goals.
We just did not concede goals on a regular basis. We nearly conceded one in two games which was fantastic. The only slight down side was that we did not score as many goals as I would have liked. We played some games where it all clicked with wins over both Madrid clubs and Barca, but then we could not keep that going in games against the lower teams in which we would get a 0-0 draw.
In the end I think our youthful squad just did not have the experience that was needed to get the the title. I am a little disappointed to have come so close and not managed to win the title, however saying that if I was offered this at the start of the year I would have bitten your hand off.
The cup run pretty much shows our season. We managed to get to the quarter final with some good performances. In the end though we could just not put the ball in the back of the net and that was our doing in the end. I was annoyed as this was a competition that we could have won.
So I took the decision this year to move this save into an arena that would make me focus on the youth side of the game. This does not mean I am not going to buy players but when I do they will be for the future. This is because partly because I have never played like this but also because I have a lot of youth boys who are very good
Juan Pedro Rios - He has been here for two years and has come through the youth system. I have been giving him some first team football this year and it has improved him.
Dave Pain - Australian boy came in for me, he is a superb prospect. He does need some nuturing, I will be going to get him on loan somewhere next year to maybe looking at him the year after
Antonio Garcia - Another one I signed for my youth team. He did cost a little bit of money but I do have high hopes for him over the next couple of years.
Alex Soria - Another product of our youth team. He played a lot of football this year for us and I was pleasently surprised with how well he has done this year. He will get first team football for the next few years.
Sergio Galan - Was on loan this year and then came back as he was doing really well, he continued his good form with us. Another one that will continue in the first team.
Juan Luis Riverio - He was the reason I let my keeper go from me in the summer and he has been amazing keeping a record amount of clean sheets.
Angelo Moreno - Another one who came into replace a massive name who left in the summer, he has been amazing. He has gotten some interest from big clubs so I am hoping to keep him on a long term deal.
Pasquel Sanchez - I brought him in the winter window and he was amazing for us. I did not expect him to play as much as he did but he has surprised me.
Next Year - I am still looking to add more youth players to the squad. Whilst doing this I will hope to repeat my league season success from this year. I will also looking to add a cup and maybe a good European run
