The Young Men of Le Mans
A closer look at some of the young talent at the club
Senior Squad - These are all players that have played/do play regularly for our main side
Yanis Haile GK
Genned at club 2020/21 Season
Labelled the next Hugo Lloris and our first team keeper since the day he turned 16, Haile is the brightest star at the club. Having drawn the attention of the likes of Lyon, Marseille and Monaco, he's clearly destined for better things.
Mathieu Briand - DC
Genned at club 2017/18
Not the most technically gifted of players, Briand is a solid enough, no nonsense centre back that has made his way through the ranks at the club, coming through when were in the CFA division.
Yohan Provost - AMC
Genned at club 2016/17
A good young AMC with technique and solid passing. Hasn't quite managed to make the position his own in the club, probably more down to my fault than his, but he still has the potential for a bright future.
Corentin Louis - AMC
Genned at club 2020/21
Not as technically sound as Provost, but with the mental and physical abilities to compensate. Already playing games at 16 year old, Italian giants Inter Milan are already sniffing about young Corentin, I can see him being a fantastic player in the future.
Selim Jouini - ST
Genned at club 2020/21
Came through in the same intake as Haile and Louis, which seems to clearly have been a bit of a golden generation for us. He's not finding the net as frequently as I'd have hoped, but that's a problem we're having as a side, so it's not his fault entirely. Still, he's only 17 and has buckets of potential.
Achraf Boussefiane - ST
Signed from Academie Mohammed VI (Morocco) 2020/21
A young player that we signed from abroad. At 20 he's at an age where I really need him to start scoring more than he is currently, but he's getting there and he's contributing well, as he can often end up playing out wide. Still young enough to improve and his youth international record is proof that he can hit the back of the net.
Outside the first team
We literally have about 25 players that have 5* potential according to my coaching staff, but I'm not going through the hassle of listing all of them, no sir-ee. Here's a few of, in my opinion, the most exciting prospects...
Arthur Boucher - 15 - DC. Labelled the next Macime Bossis, 15 years old and already first team ready, although too young to play. Wanted by Lyon, Marseille, Monaco and Rennes, we're turning down offers for this young lad on a weekly basis. I think I'll be lucky to get a full season out of him in the first team, but he's another future star and someon that'll make us a lot of money down the line.
Nicolas Ott - 15 - GK. Whilst he's clearly not Haile, he's also clearly my next best choice if/when Haile decides that all this attention is gone to his head.
Herve Esnault - 16 - DR (training to be a WBR) - With already good tackling and decent physicals, I've high hoped for Esnault, especially if he can master being a wing back
Alain Schmitt - 16 - MC - Another player who, whilst not necessarily a well rounded talent, he has the attributes in the right places to be a success and I certainly hope that he will.
There's almost definitely some more I'm missing out, but there's definite talent at the club. I'm going to dig out the old excel role rating calculator spreadsheet I used to use and run some numbers through it, see if I'm missing any major retraining opportunities or anything like that.
Unfortunately we couldn't even hold him long enough to get him on a senior deal. 15% of future fee is a something, I guess, but ah well.
