2020/21 Ligue 2 - Mid Season Report
For our first season in Ligue 2, I'm pretty darn happy. Now, there's a caveat there because we only lost 2 of our opening 10 games and sat around the top of the table, but unfortunately we only won 2 of our next 10 games, both of those being scrappy 1-0 wins. Still, though, my aim was to avoid relegation and that, hopefully, should be exactly what we do this season, even if we do fall down the pecking order.
Our cup runs didn't go much better...Yes, that's FC Dieppe, that really famous team I'm sure you'll all have heard of...
Our transfer incoming for this season. Nothing overly exciting, as we still seem to be suffering the effects of our quick rise, meaning we're not able to attract a high quality of player as I'd like (for example, no Ligue 1 loan listed players were willing to come to us), however, with that in mind I did complete 3 transfer, with an extra one pending, that I was quite happy with.
Jean-Baptiste Teshome, a player I mentioned in Ben's thread, he's one of a number of talented youngsters generated at the Reunion academy team, which is based in the lower french leagues.
Moussa Cisse, young Malian left back that I found in the Mali u20 set up. Available for free, I was quick to swoop on this one. He's definitely Ligue 2 quality, with the potential for Ligue 1 football and the potential to be sold for a pretty profit.
Austin Oghogo , probably the most exciting prospect that I found, once again in the Nigeria U20 set up. He's went straight in to our first team and has been particularly solid.
Achraf Boussefiane, the pre-arranged transfer. I was looking for a striker as mine were, and to some extent still are, going through a particularly rough patch of not scoring. I wasn't able to scout him and I'm not entirely sure just how good he's going to be, but as I may well lose some players over either January window or the summer window, it'll be nice to get him in.
Now, that's what I'm talking about!
Whilst prize money for league finishing position is down this season, television revenue has skyrocketed. Last season we made £400k in TV revenue, this season we'll receive £4.4m. Considering we still have, by a large margin, the lowest annual spend (we're less than £1m a year), we're set to make some fantastic cash this year, which is huge for us.
We're also under yet another embargo, the 4th in two seasons, for yet another prospective consortium takeover. Maybe this one will finally go through?
I understand my updates can be a little vague. If you're looking for any specifics, let me know
