One last chance.
I'm here again, searching for a new game - something to pass my evenings and weekends with. Nothing too in depth, well not yet anyway. I've a fantastic idea for a long term FM18 save - FC Bern, down in the fifth tier of Swiss football, from the capital city with a natural rival in Young Boys. However, it's all too similar to First Vienna - so that's a no go right now. In the past week or so, playtime has been scarce: I decided that Deportes Concepcion were a little too far from home. Plus, winning five leagues on the trot doesn't really sit too well with me - especially when I was already in continental competition after fluking a mid table spot. So - casting my footballing knowledge as far, and as low, as I can - I've started saves with the aforementioned FC Bern (I want to keep that for a long, long term game - even though there is five months left with this iteration), Racing Mechelen of the lower tiers in Belguim (the league split in the top flight is utterly atrocious so I'd probably go as far to say that I'd want to be stuck down in the provincial tiers), B93 in Denmark (that was only the third tier - far too easy!), Mallorca (nope - still doing nothing for me) and about four million visits to the home screen and the steam workshop.
It was there that I came across something that did ignite some interest..
Oslo is a city that I've never been to, nor really know a fat lot about. However, in FM mythology, there is a strange team from there - Oslo City. I say strange because they produce regens of a multitude of African nations, as first or second nationalities to Norwegian. Sadly, they've slipped down the pyramid of late and are now an amateur club. Never the less, I turned them semi pro and stuck them in the third tier - completely ignorant to the fact that the whole pyramid was being restructured and the bottom 10 or so teams were being relegated.
As I said - whilst browsing the Steam workshop, I came across a realistic version for the 2017 iteration of the Norwegian football; however, due to it being on FM17 - it would start the year before, essentially wiping out a season. This came with five tiers of the pyramid and had FC Oslo in a playable position. However, the combination of my poor laptop and the fact that I wanted to progress fairly quickly to a stage where my players knew how to play football - the 20 odd leagues that make up the fifth level were deemed a) too much to handle and b) a little bit too low (bear in mind the 5th tier in Switzerland is akin to the 10th level of the English pyramid - and this is worse!). So, a new club would need to be found...
I tend to look for badges - it normally means that the team meant something over the past few years, as my logopack has been carried over for about the last six editions. I spotted Lyn TF - and I knew that this was my place to be. Now in the fourth tier, Regionalligean adv. 2, they are the perfect size and have the perfect amount of history for me.
I'll start with the the real history:
It immediately brought back memories of him, playing behind Tsigalko, Madiera and Moukoko - banging them in across all kinds of competitions. A hark back to the simple days.
Back to Lyn - they also fielded Chinedu Obasi, Ali Al-Habsi and were, most famously, at the centre of the Jon Obi Mikel scandal - however, the £12m they received from that is nowhere to be seen, now fielding the TF in their name to signify the formation of a new club.
I've titled this 'One Last Chance' as I feel my interest in FM is waning - especially if I'm not posting or interacting about the game. My stint in Chile was great, at first, but then I just posted league tables and one screenshot of the intake. It didn't give me a reason to be engaged. This, I guess, is a chance to start again - in a county slightly more familiar, to post lengthy posts (how about this just for an intro!) and immerse myself, and whoever reads this, into my world of FM.
As for the club? I'll introduce them in the next post...
