Honved July 2015 Takeover Report
So for what i hope to be my final game of FM16 i have decided to take inspiration from a place where i will soon be visiting in the form of Budapest. Now there are a lot of clubs to choose from that hail from the Hungarian capital but Honved are the ones that stood out for a few reasons
1) A rich History - The club was founded in 1909 and were traditionally the army team and during the 1950’s it also shared a golden age with the National team for exactly the same reason as the likes of Ferenc Puskas, Sandor Kocsis, Jozsef Bozsik and Zoltan Czibor formed the nucleus of the club side as well as the Hungarian national side allowing Honved to pick up 4 league trophies during the 1950’s.
A second successful period during the 1980’s and early 1990’s saw Honved pick up an impressive 8 league title including league and cup doubles in 1985 and 1989. Out of the 14 teams that have won the Hungarian top flight, Honved sit 4th with 13 League titles behind fellow Budapest clubs Ujpest (20), MTK (23) and Ferencvaros (28).
2) A Long Barren spell with off the field troubles - However the last league trophy was picked up in 1993 leaving a 21 year barren spell. Since 1993 the club has had to battle relegation (2003) as well as liquidation due to some questionable tax dodging which saw the club return to the name of Budapest Honved as a new entity. During the late 2000’s the club had a small resurgence in fortunes with regular forays into Europe with a couple of Magyar Kupa wins
3) A rebuild job required - The club as i take over are not in the best place. Left behind by their rivals we are predicted to come a lowly 10th from 12 teams and to be in a relegation dog fight. Our facilities are piss poor and we have no transfer or wage budget to muster any changes. There is one saving grace in the fact we are not in debt (yet!) Kid me not it is going to be a tough couple of years before success kicks in.
4) They were the league champions of Hungary when i was born
The playing staff that i have inherited is OK. Certainly no world beaters here which is to be expected. Sandor Nagy and Aleksander Ignjatovic being the best of the bunch. There are some half decent youngsters on paper here which is a surprise given how bad the facilities are. They will be sent out on loan initially to get some game time before being re-assessed for next season. The other job for this season is to shift some of the dead weight particularly upfront where we have more strikers than i would even know what to do with.
Behind the Scenes
I have had to completely re-look at the staff here as again i was left with barebones and what i can describe as utter shit. Bear in mind what i have bought in is hardly worth mentioning. The other piece i did was get a parent club with Lech Poznan now holding that honour. I am going to need their loan signings to get through the year and have already picked up two players to help bolster the squad.
As i mentioned previously, there was no transfer budget or even wage budget to play around with so my business has been somewhat restricted so far going into the opening games of the season. A few youth players have been loaned out and i did manage to shift a 3rd choice keeper to free up some wages but it really hasn't made a dent. Incoming wise i added experienced Serbian centre half Milan Bogunovic to be a first choice centre half this season alongside Ignjatovic. From new parent club Lech i loaned in Kamil Jozwiak and Maciej Spychala. Jozwiak will provide competition on the left flank and will start the season there with Holender's injury whilst Spychala is a true back up player as we only have 5 central midfielders competing for 3 places.
On the Pitch
Pre-season went well with 3 victories and a respectable draw against Viktoria Plzen from the Czech Republic. Formation wise i have gone for a flat back four with our right back set to attacking to bomb forward. We have two DMC's helping provide a shield to the backline as in most games we will be outclassed by better opposition. Infront of them a single MC will sit with an attacking playmaker role to help try and distribute the ball quickly up top. On the flanks we have and AMR and AML with both set to inside forwards to help provide support to the False 9 Striker Youla.
We are the strongest team in the league and also have the best teamwork so we will be looking at a high pressing, hard tackling style of play to try and bully these bigger teams into submission. So far that plan has worked
4 Goals on your debut for a 17 year old against one of our biggest rivals! Was no fluke either as he scored in a 3-1 victory over Vasas in the very next match. What a signing already!
