2018-19 Season Review
So, we've reached the end of the season and we have qualified for Europe for the first time since I took over. Here is the table:
Once again - we've been very solid defensively but not showing a huge deal going forward - 23 goals in 17 home matches isn't going to excite the locals. Here is the overview of our season:
If it wasn't for a few tough results at the end of the season - Champions League qualification would have been on the cards. The use of just 19 players tells you that I don't have a lot of depth in my Under 19 squad and don't use players from the II team - this is something to try and address.
Reasonably solid - Schafer and Adlung are leaving, as is Lichnovsky, who's fallen to a backup role. Ristl has been consistent yet hasn't really had the impact I wanted, maybe because of Lukic playing well.
Again, goals. No player in double figures and I am leaving my strikeforce up to an 18 year old untested in the Bundesliga (more on that later) which is a worry. However the midfield four of Cerina - Jovanovic - Kaputska - Del Guidice has been fantastic this season and I feel will continue to serve the lone striker, hopefully he can score a few more next term.
- Increase reputation means bigger wage demands. Horn, Vydra and Kapustka don't want to start talks; Jovanovic wants £60k p/w after 1 season in top league; Gambos (II team player, soon to be promoted) wants £10k despite never playing above 3.Liga.
- I want to integrate players through the teams and these four are coming up -
No experience, all young, and all potential players instead of established stars.
- We are losing a lot of money, around £2m a month - we need to work out why. But it prices us out of these established stars. Bit of a catch-22 really.
We'll see what the summer brings!
