ATLANTIC LEAGUE VERSION 2!
After a conversation with @dalenichol we decided that we should have a go at replicating the Atlantic League proposals which have once more gained momentum following the UEFA proposals to favour the biggest leagues in Europe at the expense of the Scottish, Dutch, Scandinavian leagues etc.
Therefore talks have been ongoing between the leaders of the shunned nations around the Atlantic Sea to form a breakaway league. There isn't much real life information to go on but this is the most realistic (and still fun) set up that I could think of.
The league set up features an expanded league system of three tiers containing the highest ranked teams from the smaller nations around the Atlantic Sea.
As you can see there is still qualification to the continental competitions but as the league is based in San Marino, it will take a couple of seasons to raise the coefficient to allow more teams to participate especially as all teams have been stripped of their continental status for the audacity of joining a breakaway league!
The league reputation is just below the big leagues and TV and Prize money is fairly generous.
The cup format is a little contentious. With an awkward amount of teams it was always going to be a little tricky. As I'm useless with the editor (and it appears @dalenichol is too ) this is the best that I could come up with:
Instead of a qualification round the first round is 8 groups of 5 teams with the top 4 placed teams progressing to the last 32. From there it is a straight knockout all the way to the final which is held at the Olympiastadion in Berlin!
For those thinking the group stage is pointless (Dale) my test has seen the likes of AIK and Standard Liege knocked out by third tier sides...
Here is the link!
NB Scottish teams will still compete in the Betfred Cup first season. I can't see a way to remove that unless I recreate the Cup from scratch. For one season I'm not going to do that. Enjoy!
NB2 Removed an affiliate link between Rangers and Linfield due to possible blocking of promotions/ relegations.
